A systematic review of the evidence on the fixation and soft tissue coverage of Gustilo-Anderson IIIB open tibial fractures in adults, a complex injury with high infection risk. The review analysed 7500 articles and graded the quality of the evidence using the Strength of the Recommendation grading system. The review found that infection, non-union and mal-union were the most common outcomes and that a combined ortho-plastic approach is recommended.
